Cameron High School FCCLA recently participated in Region II Officer Screening and STAR Events. Region II Officer Screening was held at the Chillicothe High School on Wednesday, January 18th. Through an application, knowledge test, interview, and speech process, Angelina Pratt was chosen to serve as the Region II Treasurer and Parliamentarian for 2017-2018. Also in attendance was advisor Miss Yuille and Lindsey Vaiciulis as a student judge.
Region II STAR Events were held at the Trenton First Baptist Church, Missouri on Thursday, January 26, 2017 hosted by the Trenton High School FCCLA Chapter. The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family Consumer Sciences education. STAR Events, (Students Taking Action with Recognition) is a FCCLA program of competitive events designed to recognize individuals and chapters for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and occupational preparation. Each year regional contests are held in various subject areas whereby the top two gold medal winners advance to State competition and possibly on to national competition. The following students from Cameron High School competed in the corresponding events: Khayla Hollingsworth; Interior Design-Gold, Lindsey Vaiciulis; Career Investigation-Gold, Ryley Baragary; Career Investigation-Gold, Murphy Whitaker and Nicole Henley; Promote and Publicize FCCLA!-Gold, and Ivee Slaughter; Nutrition & Wellness-Gold. Also in attendance were senior Ivy Bogle, student judge, and advisor Miss Yuille, who also judged. Khalya Hollingsworth, Lindsey Vaiciulis, Murphy Whitaker, Nicole Henley, Ivee Slaughter, and Regional II Officer Angelina Pratt will be attending the State FCCLA Leadership Conference held at Tan-Tar-A on 19-21, 2017, where they will be competing at State STAR Events Competition and attending leadership conferences. For our Fall community service project, Cameron FCCLA deicded to Adopt-A-Family in our area for Christmas. Each member donated gifts to give the family members as well as a food and cleaning supply basket. Every gift was then wrapped with love and delivered to the family.

More than 650 members, advisors, guests and drivers gathered at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty Missouri for the 2016 Family Career and Community Leaders of America Regional Meeting on October 26th. The following members and advisor from our local Cameron High School chapter were in attendance (pictured left to right): Ryley Baragary, Lindsey Vaiciulis, Murphy Whitaker, Nicole Henley, Madeline Boguslaw, Kaelyn Way, Kennedy Hibbs, Shelby Medlam, Mercedes Moore, Angelina Pratt, Ivy Bogle, & Lindsey McBee. Before the meeting began, students from various schools participated in a talent show. After the talent show, members from Winston High School introduced the Region 2 Officers and Norborne High School conducted the flag ceremony. Cody Kennebeck from Chillicothe High School sang the national anthem. The meeting was called to order by the Region 2 President, Christen Brown. Awards were presented to Breckenridge and Hale for best banner, and Hardin-Central for best dressed. Gene Synder was awarded the Honorary Member for his dedication to FCCLA. Suzi Beck from Trenton Middle School received the Excellence in Advising award for going above and beyond the duties of an FCCLA advisor. During the Miracle Minute, $260 was collected for the Region 2 Project, Autism Speaks. The meeting ended with motivational speaker Bill Cordes who spoke to students about conditions that affect our choices and their life path. Students were out of their seats and meeting new people as they looked at their own egos and learned to express themselves in positive ways. The FCCLA officers made a poster to hang up outside the FACS room to recruit new members. The poster shows the upcoming meetings, officer information and applications to join.
